RHE MEDATION

Resumen del proyecto

Development of adaptive, easily reproducible microalgae-based technology plants to abate heavy metals, PFAS, pharmaceuticals and pesticides in polluted water, sediments, and wastewater to cope with the target of 50% reduction as well as with Zero Pollution Action Plan, the Convention for protection of the Mediterranean Sea against pollution and the Chemical Strategy for Sustainability objectives

COST action TD1407

COST action TD1407

Resumen del proyecto

The specific aim of the action was to create a network of scientists working and interested on Technology-Critical Elements (TCEs) from an environmental perspective to potential human health threats, with the aim of defining the current state of knowledge and gaps, proposing priority research lines/activities, and acting as a platform for new collaborations and joint research projects.

Resumen del proyecto

The protection of waters in Europe is regulated by the Water Framework Directive (WFD), which is mandatory for all European Union members. Significant progress has been made in the use of passive sampling devices for routine monitoring, but some barriers remain that prevent regulatory acceptance of passive sampling devices for checking compliance under the WFD. Adaptation of environmental quality standards suitable for passive sampling devices will allow their use to evaluate the chemical status of waters under the WFD.

Resumen del proyecto

Water is one of the most valuable raw materials for today's civilization and one of the most important factors that determine the quality of our lives. Technological development, on the one hand, plays a significant role in various forms of environmental pollution, and hence for water. On the other hand, scientific development can detect and combat these risks. This includes monitoring of the occurrence of recently unknown forms of contamination caused by micropollutants.

PlastChem

PlastChem

Resumen del proyecto

The PlastChem project aims to address the fragmented understanding of the chemicals in plastics and their impact on health and the environment. This initiative has created a high-quality, comprehensive state-of-the-science report synthesizing the evidence about chemicals in plastics to inform an evidence-based policy development for better protecting public health and the environment.

OUTBIOTICS

OUTBIOTICS

European research project that is developing a model that will support the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive in monitoring marine plastic pollution. The project wiil be identifying possible accumulation zones in European coastal ecosystems by studying hydrological transport dynamics; analysing the abundance and type of micro- and nanoplastics found in marine species by sampling representative marine animals; identifying how plastic particles, along with other environmental stressors, affect the health of species and food webs; and synthesising this research into a Weight of Evidence

LAB-PLAS

LAB-PLAS

Resumen del proyecto

The LABPLAS project is focused on understanding the sources, transport, distribution and impacts of plastic pollution in all environmental compartments (freshwater, marine, terrestrial, atmosphere and aquatic biota). LABPLAS will apply technological advances (sampling, analysis, quantification), promote biodegradable novel materials, develop innovative and up-scalable models (for assessing the fate, effects and risks of plastics), and present results to national and international authorities and industry for decision making.

SERPIC

SERPIC

Resumen del proyecto

SERPIC will develop an integral technology, based on a multi-barrier approach, to treat the effluents of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) to maximise the reduction of contaminants of emerging concern (CECs). A membrane nanofiltration (NF) technology will be applied to reduce CECs in its permeate stream by at least 90 % while retaining the nutrients. A residual disinfection using chlorine dioxide produced electrochemically will be added to the stream used for crops irrigation (Route A).
